I knew very little about the proceedings in the case of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman’s murder by OJ Simpson.  I knew there was a lot of controversy on whether he did or didn’t do it, and after reading the book he wrote, “If I did it” I can agree with many out there, that it definitely sounds like a confession.  Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t do it. I will never really know. But in my eyes, this book was clearly a confession.

The book is written with the help of a professional writer, yet was edited many times by OJ Simpson himself, and is based on his perspective of life with Nicole. I felt like the book was mainly a very good attempt at darkening and destroying Nicole’s image as the whole tone of the book revolves around how bad a crowd she was hanging with, how she didn’t care about anything, the drugs she was taking, and how she constantly wanted him and made his life hell. He constantly portrayed himself as an angel that did no wrong. I felt throughout the book, like he was trying to hard to make himself look good. The way I see it. It never sounded like the kids complained about living with their mom. And honestly, if she was THAT bad, would you not think that he should of fought for full custody of the kids?  Oh right, I forgot, he has to travel all the time for work and to play golf. But these are YOUR kids. If they were truly living in a dangerous household, as a parent he should of done something about it.

When the story gets to the murder section, (again it’s suppose to be hypothetical murder of how he would of done it) the story just smoothly runs through the scene with many details that seem like they could of only been there if he has truly been there. It was an odd part of the book, and made me even more confused as in no way does it look like fiction.

I wouldn’t recommend this to everyone, but if you are curious about the story from his perspective, its a decent read. Now I would never buy a book about a murder to support someone convicted of the said murder, however the book rights were won by Ron Goldman’s family, and the proceeds go towards the foundation they built in honor of Ron. This is what to me, makes the purchase justifiable.

Rating: 4/10

The idea behind the story is good, however I found there was too much unnecessary swearing. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a book with swearing, although I do think there’s a limit to when a person actually swears. It was distracted and took a lot away from the plot. That being said, the story was a little different from what I expected.  Having the slogan “A Modern Faerie Tale” underneath the title, I expected it to be a modern faerie tale. I felt it was more of a high school drama filled with drugs, alcohol and hallucinations.

What initially enticed me to read this series, was the look of the cover and the lure of faerie tales. For the duration of the book, it was interesting enough although I felt like there where sections of the story that were missing.

I probably wouldn’t recommend this book to my friends. I’m surprised I even read the sequel for it, which was the same if not worse than this one. This is my opinion, if you feel up to it, give it a try.

Sometimes it isn’t about the books you read

bookaddict24-7:

but the fact that you stayed up all night, that you read every waking moment, that you trusted the author with your emotions, that you escaped into a book’s world, that you let the world go so you could experience adventures beyond this life.

You can read five, thirty, sixty, over one hundred books in a lifetime.

But it’s the fact that you read at all that matters.

Keep the love of reading alive.
